During the 18th Day of German Aerospace Regions, Mynaric, a global leader in optical communication solutions, presented the CONDOR Mk3. This event gave participants the opportunity to learn about the company and its latest laser communication terminal, the CONDOR Mk3. Developed for applications in low Earth orbit (LEO), the CONDOR Mk3 offers highly secure and fast data transmission over long distances. It was specifically designed for satellite constellations, which increasingly rely on advanced communication technologies. The presentation was led by Joachim Horwath, the co-founder and CTO of Mynaric.

The CONDOR Mk3 sets new standards in laser communication. With a range of up to 6,500 km and a data rate between 313 Mbps and 2.5 Gbps, it is one of the most powerful communication systems on the market. To illustrate: a range of 6,500 km is roughly the distance from Berlin to New York. With such a range, satellites in low Earth orbit can communicate over vast distances faster and more securely than ever before.
The wavelength of 1536 to 1553 nm enables the transmission of large amounts of data with minimal latency. The terminal’s compact design (dimensions: 372 x 282 x 257 mm) contributes to its efficiency, as it operates with a supply voltage of 22 to 38 VDC. This combination of high performance, energy efficiency, and compact design makes the CONDOR Mk3 a flexible solution for various space missions.
Another unique feature is its capability for mass production. Mynaric has optimized the production of the CONDOR Mk3 so that it can be manufactured cost-effectively in large quantities without sacrificing quality. This is critical as more and more satellite constellations and commercial space applications rely on reliable communication systems.
One of the most significant technological breakthroughs of the CONDOR Mk3 lies in its scalability. Mynaric has developed the terminal to be scalable to industrial levels, meeting the growing demand for space communication. Mass production allows Mynaric to support the increasing number of satellite constellations, particularly those driving government and commercial missions. Customers such as Northrop Grumman, York Space Systems, and Loft Federal have selected the CONDOR Mk3 for their projects, and the terminal plays a key role in the U.S. Space Development Agency’s (SDA) Transport and Tracking Program.
Thanks to the high efficiency of the production units, Mynaric can manufacture larger quantities of the terminal without losing flexibility. This strengthens their market position and opens up new opportunities in space communication.
Compared to traditional radio frequency solutions, the CONDOR Mk3’s laser communication technology offers significant advantages, including:
With these features, the CONDOR Mk3 is perfectly suited for applications such as Earth observation missions, broadband internet services, and military operations, where reliable and secure communication is essential.
Mynaric has not only focused on technological excellence but also massively expanded its global presence. Since its founding in 2016, the company has grown from a team of 20 employees to over 300 employees and has offices in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. This expansion underscores Mynaric’s growing global influence as a leading provider of laser-based communication solutions.
In addition to working with commercial clients, Mynaric is also involved in various government-backed projects, including the DARPA Space-BACN program and ESA projects to develop high-throughput optical inter-satellite links. These partnerships are critical to realizing the next generation of communication solutions.

With the launch of the CONDOR Mk3, Mynaric solidifies its position as a technology leader in laser communication. The ability to produce this technology on a large scale and adapt it to specific customer requirements makes the CONDOR Mk3 a forward-looking solution for the global space market.
This flexibility and performance make the CONDOR Mk3 particularly attractive to operators of large communication networks who need secure, fast, and scalable solutions. Especially noteworthy is the terminal’s ability to seamlessly integrate with other technologies in satellite constellations, making it the first choice for complex communication needs.
The visit to Mynaric and the presentation of the CONDOR Mk3 demonstrate how German companies play a central role in the development of space communication. With groundbreaking products like the CONDOR Mk3, Mynaric not only strengthens its own position in the global market but also the entire German aerospace industry. The ability to offer scalable, cost-effective, and high-performance communication solutions will have a lasting impact on the future of space communication.
